Iowa-based ReWall Co. will expand production into Colorado with the aid of a $1.5 million government grant, giving a boost to the recycled products market in the state, the Colorado Springs-Gazette reports. The company refurbishes recycled beverage cartons into building materials.
ReWall CEO and founder Jan Rayman said "waste is another resource that we are creating a market for" and the expansion into Colorado marks a gain in traction in the recycled building materials movement. The final recycled materials produced by ReWall are mold and water resistant and manufactured in a way to reduce water waste.
The market ReWall is tapping into is similar to the deconstruction sector business in Chicago, Baltimore, and Milwaukee have targeted. Deconstruction is the processes of methodically recovering material during construction so it can be reused in its original form or re-purposed into new building material products. ReWall's efforts are part of a larger national movement to bring recycled materials into the construction sector.
