The American Society of Landscape Architects noted the growing popularity of the outdoor living space in its 2014 Residential Landscape Architecture Trends Survey.

In the survey, architects rated the popularity of outdoor home design features based on what they’d been asked to design. Outdoor living, defined as outdoor kitchens and entertainment spaces, ranked at 92%. Other popular trends included fire pits or fireplaces (95.4%), as well as installed benches, ledges, and seatwalls (97.7%).
