More than 20,000 attendees--this ProSales reporter included--have come to the annual Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Chicago this week to take a pulse on industry trends from nearly 600 exhibitors. On the first day of the event, the big news appeared to be that cabinets are taking wood veneers or finishes in neutral tones, complemented by the brighter colors in backsplashes and accent pieces. In addition, accessible storage space is fueling the push toward universal design aimed at aging baby boomers and multigenerational living situations.
Among the products at the show:
Custom Cupboards’ Artisan Collection features alder, beech, cherry, maple, oak, hickory and QSO woods in a range of finishes, or 18 paints, all trending toward gray-based colors, darker and mid-tone browns, and lighter wood finishes, the company says.
Poggenpohl’s +ARTESIO kitchen concept incorporates high-end, ultra-organizational cabinets that include a variety of space-saving drawer inserts, and is now available in a walnut finish.
Wood countertops from EnGrain include reclaimed lumber options and have no- or low-VOC finishes. Stainless Living offers a range of countertop, backsplash and trim products ranging from its Rigi-Tile metal finishes to one-piece stainless steel solids. Cambria, Silestone and Radianz Quartz all added color palates to their line of quartz surfaces.
The Galley Sink can be installed indoors and outside and incorporates multiple cutting and drying surfaces in 4-foot, 5 1/2-foot and 7-foot undermount and apron front installations.
Wall-mounted or furniture-style bath vanities incorporating quartz, granite or mixed surfaces were also noticeable on the show floor, coupled with exhibitors touting custom sinks cast from metallic, ceramic or glass materials. Native Trail’s Kohani Lavatory Basin is made from 16-gauge, recycled copper and comes in antique or brushed nickel finishes.
Wellborn Cabinets' Elegant Bath Collection of vanities is available in multiple profiles and installations, and in cherry, maple and oak finishes. Fairmount Designs introduced its Rustic Chic furniture-style bath vanity and its Metropolitan Modern version available as a wall-mount or furniture-style.
Faucets from Delta and Moen included handheld pull-down features, with the latter featuring sensory technology. Brizo’s new line of beverage faucets is designed to complement a range of kitchen décor styles and comes in chrome and stainless steel finishes. The Triflow Bamboo faucet by Zuvo lets users monitor water consumption, filter status and local filtering reports from their area via a smartphone.
Moen’s Twist handheld alternates between four spray settings with the use of two small tabs on either side of the handle. Sheer-wall shower enclosures like TOTO’s NEOREST allow users to control water temperature from the inside and outside. Gerberit’s Monolith Wall-Hung Tank and Carrier System hides the toilet tank and valves behind glass and comes with two flush options to conserve water.
Air King added motion sensing exhaust fans to its line of residential ventilation fans, available in single- and dual-speed models.
