Cambria, a quartz surfaces manufacturer, has "filed antidumping and countervailing duty petitions on quartz surface products from China," according to a Cambria press release. It filed the suit with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).
Cambria alleges that the Chinese benefit from subsidy programs provided by their government, which helps to keep their prices lower, undercut the U.S. market, and "take market share from domestic producers."
“Cambria is taking this action to ensure the long-term best interests of our industry, American manufacturing, American workers, and American business,” said Marty Davis, President and CEO of Cambria, in the press release. “Unfair trade practices have gone on for far too long. Fair trade and free trade are inseparable paradigms; you simply cannot have one without the other. We believe strongly in free trade—to protect it, we must demand fair trade."
Should the U.S. Department of Commerce and the ITC confirm Cambria's accusations, initial duties will be imposed in September, while final duties will be imposed in June 2019.
