The 2018 NAHB International Builders’ Show (IBS) may have come to a close, but there’s more to discover from the show floor, which featured over 1,500 manufacturers and suppliers. The following products caught our editors’ attention on the last day of the show.
MaxView Patio Door
Ply Gem announced its new MaxView patio door. The large, three-panel glass door reflects the trend for homeowners to have the outdoor living spaces as an extension of the home’s indoor living areas. The door’s stiles are ¾-inch wide, which maximizes the homeowner’s view of their outdoor surroundings. The patio door is also automatic and can be controlled with a wall-mounted device, a remote, or a user’s smartphone. MaxView is 20-feet wide and 10-feet high. Avalanche Elite Toilet
Gerber has added the Elite model to its Avalanche suite of bath products. The Avalanche Elite is a one-piece fixture with a semi-concealed trapway for a more streamlined look and easier installation. For installation, there’s no special hardware or bolt alignment required, no interference with the water supply/angle stop, and the seat can easily be installed before or after the bowl is installed. As the base is slightly larger than standard toilet models, the product more easily covers up unsightly floor damage during remodels. The company says the flushing system also has 50 percent more line carry than the national standard, ensuring there are no hidden clogs under the toilet or in the pipes. Rain Resistance Within One Hour
DAP’s new Dynaflex Ultra Advanced Exterior Sealant uses Weather Max technology to provide UV protection, dirt and water resistance, and a lifetime mold, mildew, and algae resistance guarantee. This allows the sealant to resist fading, bubbling, yellowing or cracking. It is paint and rain-ready in one hour after application. It will not wash out or undergo rain damage, and any paint applied within one hour will not crack, gloss, or dull. Water Proof
Lumber Liquidators introduced engineered vinyl planks early in 2017 with three colors. Now it has more than two dozen colors, including the Fieldstone Oak version shown here. The planks’ predominately PVC core means that flooding doesn’t harm them. The planks vary in thickness between 5 and 8 millimeters. Lumberliquidators.com
INOX Barn Door Lock
INOX debuted its patent-pending Privacy Barn Door Lock at KBIS 2018. Sleek and functional, the barn door lock is installed inside the door jam, as opposed to traditional locks added to the door itself. INOX’s locking mechanism provides an easy-to-use thumb turn that is available in a range of aesthetic and practical options, including an ADA option. AZEK Building Products announced a new development in FUSIONLoc, a hidden fastening system designed for both AZEK and TimberTech grooved decking. A Luxury Bathroom Collection
DXV released its Modulus collection. The modular bathroom collection features a modern design and includes not only bathroom fixtures, but also furniture and accessories so homeowners can create a single, cohesive look in their space. Fairway Architectural Railing Systems unveiled its P300 Cellular PVC Railing. The white railing looks like wood but is twice as strong as composite wood rails, the company says. Rheem
Rheem introduced a Mid-Efficiency Indoor Tankless Gas Water Heater with Built-In Recirculation, which provides continuous hot water on demand while reducing cold water waste. The tankless water heater runs only when turned on by a homeowner, and when activated, recirculated cold water that would typically run through the drain back through a return line. According to the company, this recirculation can save a household up to 12,000 gallons of hot water and more than $800 in energy expenses per year. rheem.com
Stainless Steel Farmhouse Sink
Elkay launched the Stainless Steel Farmhouse sink with Interchangeable Apron Front to give homeowners the ability to change the design of their kitchen in minutes without having to replace the entire sink. Apron fronts are available in several colors and materials including stainless steel colors and white fireclay.
