Steven Bayer runs his entry door manufacturing company a lot like you operate your building supply company.

Years of experience serving the building trade in the upper Midwest has taught Bayer and his team to go with only proven entry door components. His team at Minnesota-based Bayer Built Woodworks want what you want: Satisfied customers with no callbacks or warranty issues to mess with.

With few exceptions, it’s just good business to feature only sales-proven materials, no matter the product category, from MEP supplies to lumber and concrete. Your contractors expect it.

The same goes with the wood doors Bayer Built Woodworks makes. Only components that have proven to meet the region’s extreme seasonal temperature swings are specified. “We know what works,” says Bayer.

Needless Risk

At or near the top of that go-to list is the door frame, especially the bottom of the jambs. “If you have a slab on grade home, you set your door frame with the sill or threshold on the slab,” Bayer explains. “If water gets anywhere on that slab, the exposed jamb ends wick up the moisture.” You know the rest of the story: Dampness leads to warping, cracking and rotting.

Bayer says there are door frame manufacturers that claim end-coating, special hardwood species, treated wood or vinyl-clad wrapped frames remove moisture risk. Don’t believe it says the industry veteran.

“You can reseal all six sides of the wood door slab. But how do you reseal the bottom of the door frame?” asks Bayer. There’s only solution that makes any sense according to Bayer.

End Water Worries

“To create a wood door system that’s going to last and perform without maintenance worries, you need to eliminate any possibility of underside rot. That’s what we’ve done,” he says.

So much so, his company stands behind their wood frame doors with a transferrable lifetime warranty. No quibbles, no questions … if the door frame ever fails because of water damage, it’s on them. For the lumberyards and building supply centers his firm distributes to across an eight-state region, it’s peace of mind those owners and operators can bank on.

Contractor-Friendly Solution

Years ago Bayer and his team placed their bets on the FrameSaver door frame system from Endura, a leading building products company specializing in residential door components. FrameSaver is the structural heart of Bayer’s wood entry doors for several reasons:

  • A finger-jointed composite jamb base eliminates any possible wood damage because of moisture.
  • Works just like wood because … well, because it is wood. “It machines just like wood,” Bayer says, including the bottom composite portion.
  • Finishes and paints as easily as wood with no special paint or application required.
  • “We’ve all seen how long two by fours from the same tree tend to twist and turn. The jambs we spec are straight and true and stay that way,” Bayer says. “Plus, we get great screw retention between the sill and jamb’.”

If you stock Endura FrameSaver, you know what Bayer means. If you don’t, it may be time to let pros know how it helps projects like nothing else can.
