While proposals for greater use of mass timber construction in the U.S. remain on the table, a project in Vancouver using the construction technique will be the tallest wood building in the world, Urban VYR reports. Mass timber construction has gained traction in the U.S. in recent months, with Oregon and Washington aiming to permit construction of tall wood buildings and the International Code Council approving 14 mass timber code change proposals for its 2021 International Building Code. Several ongoing projects in Canada are using mass timber techniques and many completed high-rises in Canada have used timber, such as cross laminated timber, in their construction, Urban VYR reports.
