ProBuild Holdings announced Monday, Feb. 4, that it has finalized the previously announced purchase of substantially all of the assets of HD Supply's LBM operations. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
A ProBuild spokesperson said the acquisition involves 38 lumberyards in Georgia and Florida and one lumberyard in South Carolina, as well as seven truss plants, a construction services division and 10 engineered lumber production facilities, all in Florida or Georgia. The portfolio largely represents pieces of the Atlanta area's Williams Bros. Lumber yards and Florida's Cox Lumber operations, as well as units of Forest Products Building Materials, that HD Supply assembled in recent years when it was a division of The Home Depot.
"The addition of HD Supply Lumber and Building Materials' yards and truss plants strengthen our position in very important long-term, high-growth housing markets in the Southeast," ProBuild CEO Paul Hylbert said in the statement. ProBuild has worked over the past year to expand its presence in Florida and Georgia beyond what Hope Lumber had when it became part of ProBuild a few years back. In December, ProBuild acquired Fort Lauderdale-based Rosen Building Supplies as well as Granger Lumber in Jacksonville.
ProBuild is the No. 1 dealer on the ProSales 100, with 2006 sales of $5 billion from approximately 1,000 locations. The exact size of HD Supply's LBM operation isn't known. HD Supply has estimated that roughly 40% of its $12 billion in company-wide sales came from residential construction in 2006, but it didn't say how much of that came from the LBM division.
