Vancouver-based Interfor will close its Hammond sawmill in Maple Ridge, British Columbia by the end of the year, according to the Vancouver Sun. The move will eliminate approximately 147 jobs. The mill had a two-shift capacity, but had been operating on a one-shift basis for several years, according to Interfor. The company previously curtailed production at all of its sawmills in the British Columbia interior during June due to weak lumber prices and high log costs.
