US LBM Holdings' East Haven (Conn.) Builders Supply acquired and opened a truss manufacturing operation while US LBM's Edward Hines Lumber Co. took over the Wille Lumber location in Alsip, Ill., the holding company announced today. Meanwhile, Garris Evans Lumber Co. of Greenville, N.C., confirmed it has acquired the two-unit New Bern (N.C.) Building Supply.
East Haven Builders Supply is occupying the Universal Components Corp. (UCC) truss location in Branford, Conn., and has formed a partnership with UCC's owner, Tom Mort. UCC serves southeastern New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, southern Vermont, and southern New Hampshire. "The addition of component manufacturing to our repertoire puts East Haven Builders Supply in the leading position to serve our customers across Connecticut," East Haven president Antonio Rossano said..
Edward Hines Lumber, which itself became part of US LBM just a month ago, is using Wille Lumber to serve the south side of the Chicago metro market. Hines and US LBM and Hines originally had planned to reopen a closed Hines yard in Mokena, Ill, but then they decided to work with Wille Lumber instead. The Mokena site ultimately was acquired late last month by Schilling Lumber of Saint John, Ind.
"The Alsip lumberyard cements our intention to grow our business and remain active in the southern regon of Chicago," declared Edward Hines' president, Gerry Wille (no relation to the Wille Lumber family.) Added US LBM president L.T. Gibson: "We hope this is the first in many exciting announcements as we continue to grow Edward Hines Lumber Co. as one of the leading pro dealers in Chicago."
Headquartered in Green Bay, Wis., US LBM Holdings operates 30 locations in six states.
