Around 22.6% of the 876,000 single-family homes started in 2018 included decks, according to a National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) analysis of data from the Survey of Construction. The share of decks in new construction homes decreased more than a full percentage point from the 23.8% recorded in 2017. The share of new construction homes with decks has been below 25% since the end of the Great Recession, according to the NAHB’s Eye on Housing blog.
