Gypsum Management & Supply (GMS) acquired D.L. Building Materials, a Canadian supplier of wallboard, acoustical ceilings, steel framing, insulation, and related building products. Additionally, the specialty distributor established five greenfield locations across the United States.

“We are pleased to welcome the team from D.L. Building Materials to the GMS family,” John Turner, president and CEO of GMS, said in a news release. “This acquisition, along with the establishment of five new locations, represents continued execution of our growth strategy through platform expansion, enabling us to extend our geographic presence to four new and strategically important markets.

D.L. Building Materials serves the eastern Ontario and western Quebec markets through its two locations in Gatineau, Quebec, and Kingston, Ontario. With the acquisition, GMS expands its Canadian presence to the greater Ottawa-Gatineau, Ontario-Quebec market, the 6th largest metro area in Canada. D.L. Building Materials’ Quebec location is GMS’s first location in the province.

D.L. Building Materials founder Richard Davis, general manager Shana Davis, and the entire D.L. team will continue to lead the business moving forward, according to GMS. The company’s locations will continue to operate under the D.L. Building Materials brand name and will partner with seven legacy Watson Building Supplies locations operating across southern Ontario.

The five GMS greenfield locations expands the distributor’s presence into three additional markets: Atlantic City, N.J., Waco, Texas, and Memphis, Tenn. The Atlantic City, N.J., location will be GMS’s 20th branch under the Capital Building Supply brand name and will serve southern New Jersey customers. The Waco, Texas, location will operate as Cowtown Materials, marking the 21st GMS location in Texas. Branch locations in Memphis, Tenn., Jackson, Tenn., and Jonesboro, Ark., will provide GMS entrance into greater Memphis, a top 50 metropolitan statistical area.

Tucker, Ga.-based GMS operates a network of more than 260 distribution centers across the United States and Canada, offering wallboard, suspended ceiling systems, and complementary construction products. GMS ranked 8th on the 2020 ProSales 100 list.
