US LBM moved into South Carolina today with an announcement that it will acquire GBS Building Supply, an employee-owned, six-unit, $47 million operation that sits 85th on the ProSales 100.
President and CEO Bob Barreto will continue leading the Greenville, S.C.-based company's day-to-day operations with his existing team, US LBM said in a statement.
Founded in 1972, GBS is a full-service building material supplier that also runs a custom molding and millwork center, designs kitchens, and does floor system designs.
"This new partnership allows us to continue to invest in operations and enhance customer service at all our locations," Barreto said in US LBM's statement.
US LBM President and CEO L.T. Gibson said the deal "continues our strategy to diversify from both a product and geographical perspective."
Today's announcement is the second in five days for US LBM. On Sept. 18, the company's Wisconsin Building Supply unit purchased Trantow Do-it Center of Merrill, Wis. And on Sept. 4, US LBM bought acquired Gold & Reiss, a Brooklyn, N.Y,-base designer, distributor, and installer of cabinetry, primarily for apartment property managers.
