U.S. Lumber Group and NILCO announced jointly today that U.S. Lumber will acquire NILCO and operate it under that name as a separate division of the building products distributor.

The move essentially expands U.S. Lumber to the Midwest. It comes six months after the private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners (MDP) invested heavily in the company and U.S. Lumber launched an expansion strategy.

Atlanta-based U.S. Lumber claims more than 4,000 pro dealer and retail customers in 23 states. It serves from nine distribution centers, all but one of of which are south of the Mason-Dixon line. The one outpost is in Boston, the result of U.S. Lumber acquiring Boston Cedar in April 2016.

NILCO is based in Hartville, Ohio. It claims more than 2,000 customers, served through 12 distribution centers from New York to Indiana.
