Southeast Building Supply Interests (SBSI), a platform company of building industry-focused private equity investment firm Building Industry Partners (BIP), acquired Haywood Builders Supply in Waynesville, N.C. The acquisition of Haywood represents SBSI’s second location in the greater Asheville area following the company’s acquisition of Henson Building Supply in Black Mountain, N.C. as part of its formation in July 2021.

“Our team is looking forward to continuing Haywood’s decades-long tradition of customer service and community involvement,” SBSI president Roger Farmer said in a news release. “This is a thriving region and we are excited to expand our ability to serve the area’s builders.”

To support SBSI’s growing presence in the Asheville area, LBM industry veteran Robert Gordon joined the company as vice president and leader of the Asheville market. Gordon previously served as a general manager with both Builders FirstSource and 84 Lumber. Additionally, longtime senior leader at Haywood Danny Wingate was promoted to the role of president of Haywood.

“SBSI’s commitment to our people and the community was the right fit for our team. We are excited to enter this next phase of growth,” Wingate said.

SBSI is a regional pro dealer organization committed to aligning interests with its workforce and being an employer of choice in its markets. As part of the commitment, all SBSI employees, including Haywood employees, participated in SBSI’s employee equity ownership program.

“Haywood is a natural fit for SBSI’s growth strategy, and we are grateful to the team for their trust in us and commitment to performance in this next phase,” Pat Mascia, partner at BIP, said. ‘We strive to be the buyer of choice for companies like Haywood, and this acquisition is continued evidence of our progress towards this goal.”

BIP founded SBSI in July 2021 with the acquisition of Warner Robins Building Supply, Henson Building Materials, and Mountain Building Supply. The dealer acquired Wallace Building Supply in Clarksville, Tenn., in June.

Over the past decade, BIP has been involved in the formation of several leading industry players, including US LBM, Kodiak Building Partners, Homewood Holdings, U.S. Fence Solutions/Binford Supply, United Cabinet Holdings, and Rugby Architectural Building Products.
