ProBuild Holdings announced today (Jan. 2) it will buy Granger Lumber-Hardware, a two-unit distributor of lumber, millwork and roof trusses based in Jacksonville, Fla. The move comes two days before Bradco Supply Corp. plans to acquire Admiral Building Products of New England.

"ProBuild continues to follow an aggressive strategy to serve national builders by expanding its presence in major markets and strengthening the company?s countrywide footprint," the company said in a statement. "The Granger Lumber-Hardware acquisition provides ProBuild with access to a top 25 market in Jacksonville. With this purchase, ProBuild continues to strengthen its presence in Florida which grew through acquisition in 2007 by 13 locations." Current owner Sam Granger won't continue with the company after ProBuild's acquisition, but several other key leaders will, including president and general manager Randy Rogers, ProBuild said.

ProBuild, No. 1 on the ProSales 100, currently operates more than 530 lumber and building product distribution, manufacturing and assembly centers in 41 U.S. states.

With its acquisition, Bradco–No. 8 on the ProSales 100–will add a $60 million operation with locations in Springfield and Woburn, Mass., as well as Lewiston, Maine. Admiral is the Firestone distributor for New England. Current owner Ted Boylan will remain at the company and join Bradco's upper management.
