Mead Lumber, the 29th-biggest company on the 2018 ProSales 100, expanded in Iowa today with its announcement that it will acquire H.L. Munn Lumber.

The business will keep the H.L. Munn name and remain under the day-to-day management of Erik Munn, the owner and president, and his leadership team. "Mead shares our work ethic and values, our dedication to great customer service, and our commitment to employee development," Erik Munn said in Mead's news release. The company has a lumberyard in Ames and a showroom in Johnston, Iowa, northwest of Des Moines.

Mead President Craig Bradshaw called the H.L. Munn purchase "a great opportunity for our company and fits our strategic plan to expand into Iowa." Employee-owned Mead is based in Columbus, Neb. It posted $251 million in sales last year, 80% of it to pros.

With the H.L. Munn deal, Mead says it now has 44 locations in Colorado, Kansas, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wyoming, including four truss and wall panel manufacturing plants.
