Kodiak Building Partners acquired Idaho-based Albeni Falls Building Supply, a supplier of lumber and building products. Albeni Falls Building Supply, founded in 1948 in Oldtown, Idaho as Diamond International Lumber, distributes lumber, engineered wood, tools, hardware, paint and stain, to builders, contractors, and homeowners in northern Idaho and eastern Washington.

“Kodiak’s heritage of maintaining local culture and control is an ideal fit for the Albeni Falls team,” David Melbourn, the previous co-owner of Albeni Falls Building Supply, said in a news release. “The cultural similarities between Albeni Falls and Kodiak make us confident this will be a successful decision for both businesses.”

The then-Diamond International Lumber was purchased by Harold Ockert in the late 1980s and renamed Albeni Falls Building Supply. Ockert sold the store to David and Susan Melbourn in 1990. The Melbourns built a new location in 1995, employing over 40 people with more than 30,000 square feet of space.

“We feel that the Pacific Northwest will continue to be a great place to grow our footprint with terrific organizations like Albeni Falls Building Supply,” Kodiak CEO Steve Swinney said. “In fact, over the past three years, 60% of Kodiak’s acquisitions are in the Pacific Northwest.”

According to Kodiak, Albeni Falls will continue local operations in the markets it serves and will maintain its current vendor and customer relationships. David and Susan Mebourn, along with Scott Peacock, will continue to lead the company’s operations.”

“Kodiak has long been a trusted strategic industry partner to many local building materials companies like Albeni Falls,” Susan Melbourn, previous co-owner of Albeni Falls Building Supply, said. “The synergies of backend support and resources will significantly enhance our opportunities to service our customers, employees, and community.”

Highland Ranch, Co.-based Kodiak Building Partners operates 110 locations across Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The acquisition of Albeni Falls is the second in the month of October for Kodiak after the distributor acquired two-location Sunrise Builders Supply.
