Hardwoods Distribution Inc. (HDI) purchased River City Millwork through its subsidiary Rugby Architectural Building Products. River City Millwork operates a location in Rockford, Ill., and will continue operating under its existing brand name as part of the Rugby Architectural Building Products division of HDI.

The newly acquired company will operate as part of the Rugby Midwest region with oversight by Midwest regional manager, Rod Beason. The company products a variety of interior prehung door units, as well as hundreds of unique exterior door entry systems from its 100,000 square-foot facility in Rockford.

“We are pleased to welcome River City general manager Tim Zumbro and his entire team to Rugby,” Beason said in a news release. “This highly complementary acquisition adds resources and expands capabilities that will be synergetic across our network of door and millwork locations. We anticipate a very smooth integration that is further aligned by both companies operating on the same Agility ERP software.”

The latest acquisition further expands Rugby’s growing door and related millwork business. Rugby purchased four locations of Pacific Mutual Door Company in 2019 after first entering the door and millwork market in 2012. Rugby’s sales in the door and millwork market are approximately $160 million annually from 11 locations in Albuquerque, N.M., Boise, Idaho, Portland, Ore., Kansas City, Kansas, Nashville, Tenn., Lenexa, Kansas, Denver, Co., Las Vegas, Nev., Phoenix, Ariz., Salt Lake City, Utah, and, now, Rockford, Ill.

HDI is a distributor of architectural grade building products to the residential and commercial markets. The company has 71 distribution centers across North America under the brand names: Hardwoods Specialty Products, the Frank Paxton Lumber Company, and Rugby Architectural Building Products. The company also operates one sawmill with kiln drying operation, Hardwoods of Michigan. Rugby Architectural Building Products has 33 facilities covering 35 states.
