Hancock Lumber entered the truss business today with its announcement that it has acquired Mainely Trusses, a Fairfield, Maine-based manufacturer of roof and floor trusses.

While Hancock is notable among dealers for being among the few that still mills its own logs, this is the first time the company has produced trusses, a Hancock spokesperson said. It already produces wall panels. Hancock also claims to be the first retailer in the state to own and operate its own truss plant.

Hancock Lumber President and CEO Kevin Hancock praised Mainely Trusses for its reputation as well as its core values, particularly in terms of employee engagement and customer service. "We felt there was a lot we could learn from the company and some value we could add," he said in a press release, "When the opportunity to acquire Mainely Trusses materialized, we recognized quickly that it would be a good long-term move that strengthened both companies.”

"Transitioning ownership to a company that could help continue to improve Mainely Trusses for its employees and customers is the top priority for me," Mike Boulet, general manager of Mainely Trusses, said in the same press release. "I could not be more confident on Mainely Trusses’ future under Team Hancock’s leadership and look forward to managing the business operations!”

Hancock Lumber was ProSales' 2017 Dealer of the Year. It ranks 39th on the ProSales 100, with sales in 2016 totaling $156.9 million, 88% of it to pros.
