Guardian Building Products (GBP) expanded in the Midwest and beefed up its millwork capabilities today by acquiring the major business assets of Hawkeye Building Distributors, which has its base and a miillwork assembly plant in Rock Island, Ill., plus locations in Chillicothe and Joplin, Mo. The deal also brings Greenville, S.C.-based Guardian 300 customer accounts and 60 suppliers.

“We have always admired Hawkeye as there are many similarities between our companies,” Jim Becker, GBP's president and COO, said in a statement. “We serve the same type of customers and the majority of our product lines are the same, which makes this such a unique opportunity. ... The acquisition gives Guardian Building Products a stronger presence in the Midwest and reinforces our commitment to the millwork category,”

Hawkeye Building Distributors owners and founders Donald DeWulf and Carl “Butch” Stahler will join GBP after the acquisition to help ensure a seamless transition, Guardian said..

GBP bills itself now as a two-step distributor of exterior building products, with 30 stocking distribution centers nationwide.
