GMS expanded in two parts of the country today with its announcement that it has acquired the gypsum-related distribution operations of Grabber Construction Products in Concord, Calif., and of CMH Distributing in Kearney, Neb.
With the Grabber deal, GMS gets its first West Coast location between Los Angeles and the Oregon border and earns itself "a key foothold to begin servicing one of the largest metro areas in the U.S.," Atlanta-based GMS said in a news release. The Concord yard in the San Francisco Bay area will become the seventh location of GMS' J&B Materials unit. The other six are in Southern California and Hawaii.
Until now, GMS' operations in Nebraska were restricted to the company's Drywall Supply Inc. (DSI) stores in Lincoln and Nebraska. The CMH store in Kearney will become DSI's third location in the state and will serve customers in central and western Nebraska.
GMS ranks 8th on the current ProSales 100. It recorded $2.49 billion in sales last year and, with today's acquisitions, has nearly 215 branches nationwide.
