GMS entered the Los Angeles metro market for the first time today with its announcement that it acquired Charles G. Hardy Inc. (CGH), a specialty dealer based in Paramount, Calif., midway between downtown Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Anaheim.
Founded in 1946, CGH sells drywall, insulation, acoustical products, steel framing, and doors. Those dovetail nicely with Tucker, Ga.-based GMS, which bills itself as a leading distributor of gypsum wallboard and suspended ceiling systems.
This will be GMS' sixth outpost in Southern California; the others are in El Cajon, El Centro, Escondido, Palm Desert, and Perris. Those companies operated under the J&B Materials brand. CGH's brand name will remain as well, GMS said in a news release.
This is the company's first deal since April, when it bought WSB Titan, Canada's biggest drywall and ceilings specialty dealer.
GMS ranks 8th on the ProSales 100 list, with 2017 sales totaling $2.49 billion.
