Gypsum Management & Supply (GMS), a specialty distributor of interior products, acquired the assets of one-unit Trowel Trades Supply. The Colchester, Vt.-based company serves residential and commercial customers in the greater Burlington, Vt., metro area and surrounding markets. Trowel Trades Supply offers a full complement of interior building materials, as well as masonry and hardscape products.
GMS’s acquisition of Trowel Trades Supply marks the distributor’s entrance into Vermont, expanding the company’s footprint to 44 states. In addition to the acquisition, GMS recently opened greenfield locations in Portland, Maine, and Manchester, N.H., underscoring the long-term strategic importance of the New England market for GMS.
Trowel Trades Supply will join GMS subsidiary New England Gypsum Supply and its seven branch locations in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, and New Hampshire. Cobranch managers Mike Smullen and Bernie Metivier will remain in leadership positions with the company. The Trowel Trades brand will be retained at the Colchester, Vt., location while New England Gypsum Supply will continue to operate under its existing branding.
“We’re excited to welcome the Trowel Trades family to GMS,” Mike Anderson, vice president of the northeast division of GMS, said in a news release. “We look forward to Mike, Bernie, and the Trowel Trades team working closely with New England Gypsum Supply to better serve customers both in Vermont and across New England with the combined scale and capabilities of the two operations.”
Tucker, Ga.-based GMS operates a network of more than 260 distribution centers across the United States and Canada. The distributor’s product offerings include wallboard, suspended ceiling systems, ceilings, and complementary construction products. GMS ranked as the 8th largest company on the 2019 ProSales 100 list, generating $2.66 billion in sales during 2018.
