Specialty distributor Gypsum Management and Supply (GMS) acquired single-location distributor Rigney Building Supplies. Rigney serves the residential and commercial markets with a full complement of interior building materials, masonry products, and landscaping products in the Greater Kingston, Ontario market, a top 25 Canadian metropolitan area, according to GMS.
The acquisition of Rigney aligns with GMS’s overall acquisition strategy and reflects the long-term strategic importance of the Canadian market for GMS, according to a company news release. The Rigney deal represents an extension of GMS’s current footprint in southern Ontario under the Watson Building Supplies brand. Rigney will continue to operate under the same brand name and will complement the six Ontario locations of Watson Building Supplies. Rigney co-owners Claudio and Nadia Saccon will continue to lead company operations after the closing of the deal.
“We are pleased to welcome the Rigney team to the GMS and Titan family,” Travis Hendren, executive vice president of WSB Titan, said in a prepared statement. “This acquisition allows GMS to expand its presence in Eastern Ontario by adding a location in Kingston. We’re excited to leverage the operations and service of the combined platform to continue to grow the business and build on the momentum Rigney and Watson have achieved.”
Tucker, Ga.-based GMS operates a network of more than 250 distribution centers across the U.S. and Canada. The company’s product offerings include wallboard, suspended ceiling systems, and complementary construction products. GMS most recently expanded in south Texas with the acquisition of the acoustical and drywall operations of J.P. Hart Lumber Company in June. GMS ranked as the 8th largest company on the 2019 ProSales 100.
