Building products wholesaler Cedar Creek moved far deeper into Florida today by acquiring Universal Building Specialties (UBS), a two-step building product distributor located in the Lakeland area midway between Orlando and Tampa.
Until today, Oklahoma City-based Cedar Creek served Florida's Gulf Coast mainly through a branch in Gulfport, Miss., but it didn't have any facility in the state. Company COO Alex Averitt said the acquisition "advances our footprint in the Southeast and begins our efforts to better service the state of Florida.”
Cedar Creek has grown markedly since May 2010, when it was recapitalized by Boston-based Charlesbank Capital Partners. (See past deals.) As the map from Cedar Creek's website shows, the company now has two dozen locations from the Atlantic Coast to Colorado.
