BMC, the 10th biggest building material dealer on the ProSales 100, expanded its millwork operations in Northern California and the Central Valley with its acquisition today of Sacramento-based Western Building Supply (WBS).
WBS is better known for its two operations: Western Building Specialties and Western Bath and Shower. According to its website, the Specialties unit's offerings include the supply and installation of exterior and interior pre-hung doors, hollow metal doors, prefinishing, door hardware, interior molding, shelving, stair material, and closet organizers. Western Bath and Shower provides tub and shower enclosures, mirrors, bath accessories, bathroom partitions, storefronts, and specialty glass.
The acquisition's main goal is to expand millwork operations in the Sacramento market, a BMC official told ProSales. Boise, Idaho-based BMC already has door and millwork facilities in Modesto and Fresno, Calif.
BMC will keep WBS' Sacramento shop--which it has renamed BMC Sacramento Door & Millwork--as well as two leased facilities. All 140 WBS employees will remain on the job, including WBS' secretary-treasurer, Joseph Colorado, who now will be BMC's NorCal market millwork manager.
With the acquisition, BMC now claims 29 lumber yards, 15 truss manufacturing facilities and 24 millwork operations in 10 of the top 25 single-family construction markets. The company stands No. 10 on the latest ProSales 100 listings, with $942 million in sales last year, 95% of it to pros.
"WBS has built, over a 60-year period, a reputation for providing quality products and reliable services," BMC's chief executive officer, Peter Alexander, said in a statement. "We are very excited about serving customers through the combined strengths of WBS and BMC at our facilities located in Sacramento, Fresno, and Modesto."
