Lumber and building material distributor American Construction Source (ACS) acquired Homewood Holdings, the 58th largest company on the 2019 ProSales 100, from Building Industry Partners (BIP). Homewood will continue to operate under its existing local brand names of Homewood Lumber, Evergreen Lumber, Eagle Creek Siding, Custom Choice Door, and The Door Mill after the close of the deal, according to ACS.

“ACS is excited to add Homewood to our growing portfolio of service-oriented lumber and building materials locations,” James Drexinger, CEO of ACS, said in a public statement. “For more than 80 years, these local market leaders have provided a high level of service to builder and professional remodeler customers in the Central and Northern California, Puget Sound Washington, and Central Arizona markets.”

“We knew Jim for over a decade before we partnered at Homewood, so it’s particularly rewarding for BIP to realize this success together in Jim’s entrepreneurial debut. Over the past four years, Jim assembled an outstanding management team across three major western markets. His team created and executed their organic game plan exceptionally well by creating outstanding, enduring value propositions for Homewood employees, customers, and vendors,” said Matt Ogden, founder and managing partner of BIP.

Jim Stockman, CEO of Homewood, said he is confident the company will accelerate growth and improve the ability to serve its customers as part of the ACS platform.

Loomis, Calif.-based Homewood Holdings is a dealer with eight locations in California, Washington, and Arizona. The Homewood family of companies include Homewood Lumber, Evergreen Lumber, Eagle Creek Siding, Custom Choice Door, and The Door Mill.

The acquisition is the sixth by Springfield, Mo.-based ACS since it was formed in September 2018. ACS, backed by private equity firms Angeles Equity Partners and Clearlake Capital Group, was formed after purchasing Meek’s Lumber and quickly expanded with the acquisitions of Edwards Building Center and Breceknridge Building Center in late 2018. The distributor acquired Freeborn Lumber Company in June 2019 and Contractor’s Truss Systems in September 2019. ACS operate more than 70 locations in 9 states, serving custom home builders, remodelers, and DIY customers. ACS debuted at No. 14 on the 2019 ProSales 100 list, generating $566.3 million sales in 2018.
