Tum-a-Lum Lumber announced today it has hired M. David Dittmer, a former executive with ProBuild and one of its predecessors, to serve as CEO of the four-yard company.
Dittmer was president of Lumbermens Building Centers when it was part of Lanoga Corp., one of the two major companies that formed ProBuild. He was named president of ProBuild's Western Region in 2007 and left sometime before or during a corporate reorganization in 2009. Since then, Dittmer has been involved in business development and teaching, a Tum-a-Lum spokesperson told ProSales.
Tum-a-Lum (an Indian word for "spreading waters," describing the annual spring run-off in the Walla Walla, Wash., area) was founded in 1906. Based in Bend, Ore., it has three stores in Oregon and one in California. The store in The Dalles, Ore., is on the site of a former ProBuild facility.
"We are very excited to have Dave on the Tum-A-Lum team," general manager Mike Darby said in a statement. "He has a proven track record in our industry, and Dittmer’s experience in leading companies is an excellent match for Tum-A-Lum as we look to the future."
