The Midwest division of Meek's Lumber will acquire seven of E.C. Barton & Co.'s retail building material stores in southwest Missouri effective Friday, the two companies announced today.
Meek's will operate the E.C. Barton stores in Mount Vernon, Nevada, and Shell Knob, Mo. "The stores in Carthage, Eldorado Springs, Kimberling City and Monett, Mo., will be consolidated with other Meek's locations in those market areas," the companies said in a joint statement.
Meek's, which has extensive operations in Missouri and Arkansas as well as in California and Nevada, ranks 19th on the 2010 ProSales 100, which is to be released May 5, with sales in 2009 of $211 million. E.C. Barton ranks 14th on the same list with 2009 sales of $336 million; the revenue represented by the seven stores to be sold wasn't released. Both companies get about 75% of their revenue from professional builders and remodelers.
Barton's is a fantastic operation and we are excited to be entering new markets in Mount Vernon, Nevada, and Shell Knob," said Meek's general manager Charles Meek.
The transaction "allowed E.C. Barton & Co. to make a seamless transfer or business to a quality, well-respdected building material company," added E.C. Barton president Niel Crowson.
