Kodiak Building Partners and Freedom Materials Form Freedom Acoustics

Kodiak Building Partners and Freedom Materials opened a Freedom Acoustics greenfield location. Freedom Acoustics is a complete ceilings systems provider in the greater Philadelphia and Baltimore-D.C. metro markets, distributing Rockfon Mineral Wool Tile and Chicago Metallic Grid and Metal Ceilings.

“Freedom Materials has been a strong and respected player in the greater Delaware market for gypsum and building materials,” Kodiak Building Partners CEO Steve Swinney said in a news release. “Adding Freedom Acoustics to our growing organization to expand our ceiling and acoustics capabilities is an important component of our growth strategy, and the Freedom team helps to further these efforts.”

Freedom Acoustics, founded as a greenfield expansion of Freedom Materials in June 2020, will be led by Bob Kempf. Freedom Acoustics will be part of the Gypsum division at Kodiak Building Partners, under the leadership of Silvio Ferrari.

“Freedom Acoustics was conceived to fulfill a market need of delivering finished materials to jobsites undamaged,” Ferrari, president of Freedom Materials, said. “Ceiling materials are easily destroyed, and after 20 plus years of mishandling by wall board distributors, it was time to shift our thinking surrounding acoustic products.”

Freedom Materials partners with residential and commercial builders to provide drywall and drywall-related materials to contractors throughout the mid-Atlantic region. The company operates out of three locations in Savage, Md., Newark, Del., and Greenwood, Del. Freedom Acoustics is based in Newark, Del.

Highland Ranch, Co.-based Kodiak Building Partners operates 84 locations across Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Texas, Nebraska, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The company recently opened a Jenkins Drywall and Insulation greenfield location in Etna, Wyo. Kodiak serves general contractors, builders, subcontractors, remodelers, and DIYers. The specialty dealer ranked 11th on the 2020 ProSales 100 list.
