Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, visited Marcus (Iowa) Lumber on May 30 and got a first-hand look at the challenges and opportunities facing small businesses in general and LBM operations in particular.

Along with touring the company's recently updated and expanded facility in the 1,200-person community, Grassley joined Marcus Lumber and community leaders to discuss a variety of topics, including education, renewable fuels, and rising health care costs. Other topics involved trade tensions--on lumber and steel for Marcus Lumber and on farm products for the entire community.

“I can tell you the President believes being unpredictable is to his advantage [in these trade talks}," Marcus Lumber quoted Grassley as saying. "Things are changing every day but recently there appears to be a small light at the end of the tunnel.”
