In a pro dealer universe that is becoming replete with multi-billion-dollar corporations, national geographic footprints, and deep corporate coffers, it may seem surprising that 2006 PROSALES Public Service Leaders Rand Thomas and Steve Kelly, the respective presidents and owners of Sequim, Wash.–based Thomas Building Center and Covington, Ky.–based Kelly Bros. Lumber, operate only four locations between them. Yet, for decades, both have tirelessly committed themselves not only to the support and advancement of the communities in which they live, but to the overall success of the lumber and building materials industry as a whole.
According to the many who have benefited from their monetary and materials donations, their leadership and guidance, and, most importantly, the countless hours of time they have spent to make a better society and a better industry, our 2006 Public Service Leaders stand out not just because of their own contributions, but for their unique and innate abilities to evoke and inspire the commitments of others.
From building public libraries to introducing legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives, these champions of public service are working for the betterment of the LBM industry and their own communities, and by all accounts, it is impossible to hear about their accomplishments without being stirred or enthused into action of your own.
