A grand jury Friday indicted Ray Nagin, who served as the mayor of New Orleans from May 2002 to May 2010, on 21 federal corruption counts that include wire fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy, WWLTV in New Orleans reports. An investigation revealed that in 2007 Nagin conspired with The Home Depot to help the retailer secure tax breaks and skirt local hiring quotas related to the construction of a new store in the Central City area of New Orleans. As part of the same deal, WWLTV reports, a granite counter-top fabrication firm owned by Nagin and his son was awarded a contract to make and install product at four of Home Depot's area stores.
