Builders FirstSource (BFS) appointed Dave Flitman as the company’s new CEO. The transition of the CEO role is taking place 90 days after BFS and BMC Stock Holdings completed their all-stock merger and coincides with the previously announced retirement plan of previous CEO Chad Crow.
“This is truly an exciting time for Builders FirstSource,” Flitman said in a prepared statement. “I firmly believe that growth is what’s at the heart of this merger - consolidating and expanding our reach in a fragmented industry, innovative and building on our value-add offerings, and giving our people the resources needed to deliver the enhanced service our customers expect from us.”
Dave Flitman has nearly four decades of experience across multiple industries. Prior to the BFS-BMC merger, he was the president and CEO of BMC. Previously, Flitman served in numerous executive leadership roles, including as president and CEO of Performance Foodservice, COO of Univar, president of Univar USA and chief supply chain officer, and executive vice president and president of water and process services at Ecolab. Flitman also held several leadership roles at Nalco and worked as president of Allegheny Power and vice president of distribution at Allegheny Energy. The newly appointed president and CEO also spent nearly two decades at DuPont in various operational, commercial, and global business leadership positions.
Dave Flitman is currently on the board of directors for BFS and Veritiv Corporation. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Purdue University.
The retiring Crow will remain available on a consulting basis to support the integration of BFS and BMC and ensure an orderly transition.
“I would like to thank everyone who supported me throughout my career at Builders FirstSource,” Crow said. “When I joined BFS more than 20 years ago, it was, of course, much smaller, having only completed a few acquisitions at that time. I could not have dreamed this company would be where it is today - an industry leader - but more importantly, such a special place to work filled with incredible people, and where I have developed life-long friendships. I’m incredibly proud of the growth we’ve achieved over the last two decades.”
In December 2020, Builders FirstSource outlined the leadership team that would lead the combined company. The leadership team includes Tim Johnson as general counsel, Peter Jackson as CFO, John Barrow as senior vice president and CIO, Michael Neese as senior vice president of investor relations, Amy Plasha as senior vice president of human resources, and John Barnes as senior vice president & IMO sourcing & supply chain leader.
