Beacon Roofing Supply appointed Thomas Schmitz as the company’s vice president and chief accounting officer, according to a news release. The move, effective April 15, 2019, will see Schmitz assume leadership of Beacon’s accounting organization and operations.

Schmitz has 14 years of experience at the Herndon, Va.-based distributor in various financial roles. He began with the company in 2004 as a regional controller and was promoted to divisional controller and vice president of finance positions within the company. Schmitz assumed leadership over the integration of Allied Building Products accounting and financing functions across all of Beacon in 2017. Schmitz was named Beacon’s corporate controller in January 2019, assuming responsibility for Beacon’s regional accounting functions.

“[Tom’s] broad experience in finance and accounting, combined with his deep knowledge of the Beacon business model positions him well for this role,” Beacon Roofing Supply CFO Joe Nowicki said. “He has been involved in multiple acquisitions from due diligence through integration, helped form and implement our internal control and SOX guidelines, and established effective financial planning and analysis functions within the field.”

Prior to joining Beacon, Schmitz worked at Penske Truck Leasing, Infonxx, and Reinsel & Company in various accounting roles.

Beacon Roofing distributes roofing materials and complementary building products and operates over 500 branches throughout all 50 U.S. states and six Canadian provinces. The company recently announced president and CEO Paul Isabella would leave the company later in the fiscal year.
