Beacon Roofing Supply acquired Contractors Roofing & Supply, a one-location supplier of residential roofing materials based in O’Fallon, Mo. At the same time, it was set to open a new location in St. Louis itself under the Roof Depot brand name. Both announcements were among a slew of LBM moves last month. Among them:
- Malheur Lumber, a 75-year-old subsidiary of Ochoco Lumber in western Oregon, will close its sawmill on Nov. 1.
- Stone’s Building Center in Wausau, Wis., was set to close by Labor Day after having been hit hard by the housing bust and slow recovery.
- McKenzie Building Center, based in Watford City, N.D., created a new contractor and commercial customer service center to serve oil companies in the Bakken oil field.
- An Almonte, Calif., family purchased Mill Valley (Calif.) Lumber Co. and plans to continue the local landmark as a lumberyard.
- Harry’s Building Materials, based in Rusk, Texas, closed its Palestine, Texas, location on July 31.
- Gabriel Building Supply of Ponchatoula, La., bought property in Amite, La., and plans to develop it into a retail store by spring or summer of next year.
- Icy Straits Lumber and Milling Co., located in Hoonah, Alaska, opened a showroom in Juneau.
- Schilling Design Center & Lumber Yard purchased the Reinke Supply building located just north of its showroom in Mokena, Ill. The company plans to grow as well as to renovate the location.
- Star Lumber will close its store in Hutchison, Kan., but noted it will continue to serve the market through its Wichita distribution center.
- ABC Supply opened a new location in Carnegie, Pa., near Pittsburgh.
