Beacon Roofing Supply, America's fifth-biggest pro-oriented building material supplier, announced Friday it has acquired Louisiana Roofing Supply (LRS), a roofing and shingles dealer based in Baton Rouge, La.

LRS, which had sales of roughly $8 million in 2009, will be renamed West End Roofing, Siding and Windows. Beacon uses that name for three other facilities it already has in Louisiana. Co-owner Pyke Babin will remain part of Beacon's regional management team.

"Acquiring LRS will allow Beacon to expand our presence in Louisiana and enter the Baton Rouge market," Beacon president and chief operating officer Paul Isabella said in a statement.

This is Beacon's second purchase in a week. On April 13, the company announced it had acquired Phoenix Sales Inc., a distributor of commercial roofing systems and related accessories with four branches located in Tampa, Orlando, Pompano, and Fort Myers, Fla., and sales of approximately $20 million in 2009. And in February, Beacon acquired Independent Building Materials, a distributor of mostly residential roofing systems and related accessories with one location in Orlando, Fla.

Peabody, Mass.-based Beacon ranked fifth on last year's ProSales 100. The buying spree comes despite that fact that Beacon's net profit in its fiscal first quarter ended Dec. 31 shrank 58% to $7.8 million on a 20.6% slump in sales to $367.7 million (story).
