84 Lumber appointed James Abbott to the newly created position of vice president of engineered wood products (EWP).

In the role, Abbott will report directly to Ken Kucera, 84 Lumber’s vice president of installed sales and manufacturing, and will work to grow the dealer’s engineered wood products programs into new markets and with new customers. According to the company, Abbott will leverage the momentum 84 Lumber is already seeing to establish the company as one of the premier suppliers of engineered wood products.

“Jim brings extensive knowledge and experience to 84 Lumber,” Kucera said in a company news release. “We want to provide EWP programs and solutions to even more customers, both regionally and nationally, and we believe Abbott will be successful in doing that. We’re excited to have him on board.”

Abbott brings 23 years of experience in the EWP industry to the role, including a variety of leadership roles with Boise Cascade and Louisiana Pacific.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with 84 Lumber throughout my career, and I have experienced firsthand the drive and passion for performance that has made the company so successful,” said Abbott. “This new opportunity provides me the honor and privilege of becoming part of a team that I’ve grown very close to over the years, and I look forward to being a part of the future growth and success of the organization.”

Eighty Four, Pa.-based 84 Lumber was the fourth largest company on the 2019 ProSales 100. The dealer operates nearly 250 stores, components manufacturing plants, custom door shops, custom millwork shops, and engineered wood product centers in more than 30 states.
