Canfor to Permanently Close Prince George Sawmill

CEO Don Kayne said the company has plans to redeploy the impacted workers into other sites.

Vancouver-based manufacturer Canfor will permanently close its Isle Pierre sawmill near Prince George, British Columbia in the fall, according to the Vancouver Sun. The company plans to wind down operations in the third quarter and will attempt to move the 94 impacted employees to other sites in British Columbia. Canfor said the closing is a result of insufficient supply coupled with the global economic downturn as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
