The Baltimore Wood Project is repurposing lumber from thousands of buildings slated for demolition in the city, reducing construction waste and stimulating the market for recovered wood. As part of the project, wood is processed and repurposed for sale in a closed loop system, GreenBiz reports. A majority of the reclaimed wood in Baltimore is old-growth lumber—stronger and more resistant to rot than many lumber products—creating a demand from both builders and furniture manufacturers across the U.S.
