84 Lumber awarded John Fitzgerald, Jason Skaggs, and Dominick Santos the dealer’s top honors during the company’s annual awards banquet. The company named Fitzgerald as its manager of the year, Skaggs as the 84 Lumber area manager of the year, and Santos as the dealer’s rookie of the year during its awards ceremony at the Nemacolin Resort in Farmington, Pa.
“Recognizing our dedicated associates and celebrating their achievements is something we look forward to every year,” president and owner Maggie Hardy said in a prepared statement. “As a 67-year-old company, we know firsthand that our associates can thrive and enjoy incredible, lifelong success. We are one big family here at 84 Lumber, and families celebrate each other."
Fitzgerald, a 29-year veteran at 84 Lumber, is based at the company’s Georgetown, Texas, store. The company’s 2022 manager of the year first joined the company as a manager trainee in the Ohio market.
“84 Lumber has given me the opportunity to have a variety of experiences which allowed me to work in different regions of the country. I’ve had the chance to have a real impact on associates’ careers and help build the future of the company,” Fitzgerald said. “84 Lumber is more than a company to work for; it is truly a family of associates across the country.”
Area manager of the year Skaggs joined the company 22 years ago and currently serves as the area manager in Florida. Skaggs began as a manager trainee in Ohio and rose to various positions in Ohio and Florida before becoming area manager of the Sunshine State in 2015.
“84 has provided me every opportunity imaginable. From a young kid coming out of college that didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life; to go through the manager trainee program and 22 years later to be the Area Manager of the Year for the second time – I have a successful career and a great family – it’s a dream come true,” said Skaggs. “If you are willing to work hard, listen and learn, you can succeed at 84 Lumber. The opportunities are there, you just have to take them.”
The dealer’s rookie of the year Dominick Santos is the co-manager of 84 Lumber’s Jefferson City, Tenn., branch location.
“Guys like Dominick, they really are the future of this company,” said Mark Ingersoll, area manager of Georgia and Tennessee.
Eighty Four, Pa.-based 84 Lumber said it plans to expand into new and existing markets around the company to keep pace with its record growth. The company supplies building materials and manufactured components. 84 Lumber operates 310 stores, components manufacturing plants, custom door shops, custom millwork shops, and engineered wood product centers in 35 states.
