Hammond Lumber Co. announced today it has purchased the assets of Pineland Lumber Co., a one-yard store located in Lewiston, Maine, about three miles away from one of Hammond's nine facilities.

Hammond vice president Mike Hammond said his company has yet to decide what to do with Pineland's property, which is located on the opposite side of the Androscoggin River from Hammond's store in Auburn. In the interim, Pineland stores will be served from Hammond's Auburn store.

Pineland's co-owners--Neal Ouellette, the president, and Ruth Gallagher, treasurer--have become Hammond employees and will assist in the transition. Pineland's other 12 employees "will be placed in the different branches according to their skill sets and the store's needs," Mike Hammond said.

Based in Belgrade, Hammond ranks 43rd on this year's ProSales 100, with sales in 2009 of $85 million, 80% of it to pros.
