HPM Building Supply, one of Hawaii’s two big lumberyards, donated paint and the side of one of its warehouses to local artists in Hilo, on Hawaii’s Big Island. The resulting mural, celebrates the island’s environment, including the giant mountain Mauna Kea, Hilo’s forests, the rainy climate, and native plants.

“The hope is that this mural will invigorate and incite the public to take an active role in stewarding our land for longevity in the future,” wrote local leader Kamalani M.F.H. Johnson in a message relayed by HPM. That’s a message in tune with the lumberyard’s 95-year-history and strong belief in community.
