Neil Sherman, executive vice president of LP Corporation, has been elected American Wood Council’s (AWC) board of directors’ chairman of the board for a one-year term, beginning on January 1, 2020.

“Neil has been in the wood products industry for over 25 years and has served on the AWC board for four years,” AWC president and CEO Robert Glowinski said in a public statement. “He has been an asset to our board and I look forward to working with him as chairman as we prepare for the opportunities and challenges to come.”

T. Furman Brodie, vice president of Charles Ingram Lumber, will serve as the first vice-chairman and Eric Cremers, president and COO of PotlatchDeltic, was elected second vice-chairman. Roseburg Forest Products chairman Allyn Ford will serve as immediate past chairman for the board of directors.

“Allyn led the AWC Board for two years, providing oversight and guidance to the organization. During that time, AWC achieved significant Council milestones, including the breakthrough approval of tall mass timber code changes,” Glowinski said. “I’m glad he is willing to continue serving as a member of our board to provide his valuable counsel.”

Other new members of the AWC board in 2020 include Nate Jorensen of Boise Cascade; Kevin McKinley of the Canadian Wood Council; Keith O’Rear of Weyerhaeuser Company; and Todd Payne of Seneca Sawmill. Mike Dawson of Norbord was elected to a second two-year term.

The AWC represents 86% of the structural wood industry. Staff experts with the AWC develop engineering data, technology, and standards for wood products to assure their safe and efficient design and provide information on wood design, green building, and environmental regulations.
