James Gigliotti
James Gigliotti

James Gigliottti's first entrance into the LBM industry was through working at his local lumber yard in his youth. He started working at the cash register before climbing the ranks and eventually moving into inside sales, where he developed a new revenue stream--selling weatherization products--in 2008, during the height of the Great Recession.

Gigliotti’s career in the industry has included over eight years with Timberline Enterprises, where he assumed the position of director of purchasing at just 30 years old. Gigliotti joined Hancock Lumber in November 2019 as the company’s commodities purchasing manager in a hybrid remote capacity, just as whispers of the novel coronavirus began to surface. In the role, Gigliotti is responsible for establishing, building, maintaining, and negotiating contracts and programs while procuring commodity products supplied to Hancock’s lumber yards across Maine and New Hampshire. Quickly into his time at Hancock due to COVID-19 pandemic, Gigliotti became a fully remote employee, having only met briefly with team members in person.

Gigliotti was able to weather the numerous challenges presented by 2020, including supply issues in the treated market, issues at lumber mills, plywood mills, and OSB mills, to keep inventories fuller than local competitors and help the Hancock team achieve historical sales growth during the year.

Kari Gaviria, the vice president of sales at Madison Wood and a member of the 2020 Four Under 40 class, said she uses Gigliotti, a “model buyer with an incredibly fast and professional response time,” as an example for members of her sales team to strive towards.

James Gigliotti will participate in a virtual panel discussion with the other Four Under 40 winners from 2:15-2:45 pm EST on February 24 at the 2021 ProSales Conference. For more information about the virtual event and to register, visit prosales100conf.com.
