Many of the newest vinyl windows, whether all vinyl or vinyl-clad, offer a more traditional wood-window appearance, but still provide effective thermal performance and wind or impact resistance.

Weather Shield's Visions ELS premium vinyl window line features the detailing of a traditional wood window with a built-in brick mold and a solid 4 9/16-inch jamb. The window's construction exceeds DP-50 ratings in specific configurations. Peachtree's 300 Series Vinyl Clad wood windows feature extruded vinyl exteriors, double weather stripping, one-piece welded jamb construction, and white cellular PVC or clear-finished pine interiors. Armor Glass Plus windows from Gorell feature two panes of glass that sandwich a polyvinyl butyral interlayer to resist impact, and a third inner pane of glass. The manufacturer says that, in tests, Armor Glass Plus windows withstood more than 30 blows with a baseball bat before a quarter-size hole appeared. Milgard's Style Line II Series single-hung tilt vinyl window allows easy access to the exterior pane for cleaning. A sloped sill provides a traditional appearance and directs water away from the window. The 1955 Pocket Frame double-hung replacement window from XACT combines the appearance of a traditional wood window with the easy maintenance of vinyl, the maker says. Republic's Enhancement vinyl windows are available with cherry, light oak, and dark oak interior finishes, and come in a variety of styles. Available on most of Simon-ton's Impressions 9800 windows, as well as limited sizes of patio and garden doors, new Exterior Painted Coatings in hunter green, bronze, stone, and chocolate brown resist fading and are tested to AAMA standards for solvent resistance, hardness, adhesion, and impact resistance.
