A new survey of 500 residential architecture firms finds that informal space, open space layouts, and access in and out of the home topped the list of home design elements that are increasing in demand.

According to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Home Design Trends Survey for the first quarter of 2016, released June 21, 55% of firms reported an increase in activity for informal spaces, 53% noted an increase for open space layouts, and 49% reported an increase in interest for access in and out of the home.
