The lumber and building materials industry lost two influencers this week with the deaths of Jim Kurtz and Eddie Buck.
88 year old Jim Kurtz died Dec. 3. He started in the LBM industry in 1953, working at Independent Lumber in Montrose, Colo. He founded Alpine Lumber in 1983 and oversaw its expansion beyond Colorado and into New Mexico. He also served as a trustee for the Denver Zoo.
Edgar Buck Sr. died Dec. 3. He was the Chairman of Jupiter Holdings and Buck Lumber Company. Buck Lumber grew out of his purchase of Rhodes Lumber in 1975. Buck Lumber currently employs around 400 people.
