Hundman Lumber of Bloomington, Ill., will merge with Alexander Lumber, a dealer based out of Aurora, Ill., after signing a letter of intent to combine, the companies announced today. The merger is expected to close during the first quarter of 2012 with both companies working in the coming months to combine operations.
"We are very pleased to join forces with Hundman Lumber," said Alexander Lumber executive vice president Tom Hodgson. "The combined experience and expertise of our two companies will be a great asset to contractors and homeowners in downstate Illinois."
Hundman, ranked No. 68 on the latest ProSales 100 listing, has seven stores located throughout Central Illinois. It also operates two wholesales divisions under the Decatur CounterTop and Hundman Truss & Wall brand names. The company was founded in 1950 by Richard Hundman and is currently led by his son, Mike Hundman, who will join the Alexander Lumber management team following the deal. Alexander Lumber is a 120-year-old business with 23 locations in Wisconsin and Illinois.
All Hundman locations will take on the Alexander Lumber name. The companies will consolidate their Champaign, Ill., operations with Hundman closing its facility there on Nov. 1. Many of the former Hundman employees were hired by Alexander Lumber to work at its location. Mike Hundman said all other Hundman locations will remain open.
"Alexander Lumber has a long and successful history, and I am excited to work with them to merge our two operations in the leading supplier in downstate Illinois," Hundman said in a statement. "Our customers and staff will benefit from Alexander's resources and experience in making improvements to out systems and facilities."
